Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.
It comes at the end of harvest here in Kansas. The fields lie bare. There is a quiet dignity about them, much like a life well-lived. The land has yielded its produce and now is at rest.
So it is with Thanksgiving day.
At our home, my parents and daughters all journey to join us as we reminisce, laugh, joke and feast. We feast on the wild turkey I have “harvested” from our family farm. We call our annual gathering a “little slice of Heaven.” A foretaste of our future eternity together.
In our family prayer, we especially remember those family members who are no longer with us, those in our military family who defend us, and those in need. We are thankful that we enjoy many freedoms not shared by the majority of folks inhabiting this celestial ball with us, through no fault of their own.
In the end, like those Kansas farm fields, we rest, reflect and give thanks for our many blessings.
May you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving day.
