If you've taken the steps to upgrade to a mobile-responsive website in the past few years, congratulations! You are well ahead of the most recent announcement from Google regarding an increased effect in the mobile search ranking signals.
If you have not taken steps necessary to upgrade your site to a mobile-responsive design, now is a great time to reach out to James Campbell, VP of Practice Development, to schedule a consultation.
Google is doing their best to nudge us toward mobile-friendly sites (exclusively) and everything else search related seems to be adjusting toward a single mobile view rather than varying results from desktop to smart-device. In the past few months we've seen them:
- Separate G+ from Google Local, resulting in the updated term Google My Business a.k.a. GMB – thus pushing you to post socially on G+, otherwise you've nothing but a blank page when people visit your G+ page (watch as these posts become more prominent in search results);
- Reduce the "local snack pack" listings from seven to three results – making it even more important for your Google My Business to be accurate and up-to-date by the minute; and finally,
- Eliminate the paid search ads from the right-hand side of the (desktop) search results page.
